Finds of the Month
|
The Finds-of-the-Month competition is a twelve-month event running from January through December. It is open only to club members. Only items may be entered in the competition if found in the previous month or since the previous meeting. There are six categories as follows: coin, jewelry, relic, other, wildcard, and table. Points are awarded to the top three items in each category. Five (5) points goes to the first place item, three (3) points to the second place item, and one (1) point to the third place item. Each member is allowed to enter only one item per category. At the end of the competition, a "Hunter of the Year" for each category and an overall "Hunter of the Year" for all categories will be named. Each month the first place winner of each category will receive a small prize. Prizes change each month at the discretion of the Find-of-the-Month chairman. There are no prizes currently set for the end of the year titles. Certain guidelines should be followed when entering an item for competition: Coin - Includes items used as money both U.S. and foreign. It also includes tokens or other items used for the same purpose. Jewelry - Items include rings, necklaces, watches, brooches, bracelets, earrings, and other items used for the same purpose. Relic - Can be a variety of items from buttons to bottles to clay marbles. The key to this category is the items should be old. Other - Includes items not fitting in the above categories, such as beach toys, tools, toy cars, etc. Wildcard - A category is picked at the beginning of the monthly meeting. There are many different possibilities. The current variations of items are: fishing gear, oldest coin, junk jewelry (non gold or silver), foreign coins, eating utensils, stone/pottery, toy cars, most nickels, most pull tabs, knives, auto parts, bottles/glass, lead things, largest find, farm/agricultural, locks/keys, and military things. Table - All items found may be displayed for table. There is no distinction of the types of items. Three (3) judges are selected from the club members attending the meeting. The method used to determine first, second, and third place winners is up to the judges. Items entered in a wrong category will not be judged. All of the winning places do not need to be decided if less than three items are entered.
