COMMUNITY EVENTS

On June 15, 2025, members of the Tidewater Coin and Relic club granted a Make A Wish child his wish! TO METAL DETECT! Through generous donations of $ from the members, the club purchased a detector, pinpointer, scoop, gloves, finds box, sunscreen, water bottle, metal detecting hat, back pack, club patch, found and return pin, and name tag! We seeded the field with silver dimes, quarters, Ben Franklin 1/2, V nickels, Wheaties, Indian head pennies, and a special 1600 hundred Maravedis coin along with some toy cars and other miscellaneous items!!!! We met at the VA Beach oceanfront with everything Mason would need to start his metal detecting hobby! After a quick lesson with his new metal detector, he was off and swinging through the seeded field. With every target he found, Mason had the biggest grin on his face and he was so excited! As his instructor, Doug Parker taught him to pinpoint, remove targets and cover his holes.

We gave his father some instructions on hunting playgrounds and parks back home in Kentucky and I’m sure Mason can’t wait to turn that machine on again!

We have a great club with many hard working members. Come to a meeting and see what we are all about! The meeting dates are listed on the website and any questions, send a message though the site. We will response and...

HAPPY HUNTING!

TC-RC Teaches Through Display
At Portsmouth Library

Our Member at Large, put together a display for the Portsmouth Public Library on High St & Cedar Lane to showcase how rewarding the hobby of metal detecting can be.  We would love you to stop by the library to take a peak.  If that is not possible then you can browse the pictures of the display here.  We are told it will be up until the end of May 2025.

It has come to our attention that one of our detecting brothers has suffered a terrible accident while trying to help a friend.  His club "Massachusetts Treasure Hunters Association" has asked for donations to help cover the out of pocket costs of his recovery.  The link will take you to a Go Fund Me page where you can provide help.  Thank You in advance for the support.

From time to time our club is asked to perform a metal detecting demonstration for a small group.  This was the case in September of 2024.  Ina, Mary and Heather put on a detecting demo for a small group of home-schooled kids in our local area.  An explanation about how a metal detector works and the joy of the hobby was given to the class.  They demonstrated the proper way to use a detector and pin pointer.  They constructed sand boxes with various treasures hidden beneath the sand and had the children use the pin pointer to search and locate the targets.  After that bit of fun they took to the field and showed how to find treasure with a metal detector.  From all reports the kids were enthusiastic and very attentive participants who seemed to enjoy the activity.  With a little luck they may have ignited the detecting bug in a couple of the students.  Great job Ina, Mary and Heather.  From the smiles and engagement, it appears to have been a huge success.
